There is a kind of water that can reverse the aging of DNA
extend telomeres, reverse the age of DNA methylation, and can also solve various metabolic and brain abnormalities: improve blood sugar and blood lipids; symptoms of people with stroke, Parkinson's disease, and dementia will improve. This legendary fairy water is called "水素水" in Japan,
but its scientific name should be hydrogen-rich water. Some health supermarkets abroad have already seen this kind of hydrogen-rich water beverage, as well as home hydrogen water dispensers and portable hydrogen-rich water cups. What is the use of hydrogen-rich water, and is it an IQ tax? Then let's reveal the secret together.
1. Magical "selective" antioxidant
To understand the health effects of H2, first understand why the human body is unhealthy. From a microscopic level, one word determines your degree of aging and chronic diseases - oxidative stress.
Whether it is diet, work and rest, sports injuries, trauma, or mental stress, they all end up in the same way, damaging the health of the body by causing excessive oxidative free radicals. But there are many kinds of free radicals, and some "good free radicals" are actually necessary for the normal functioning of the immune system. So we will find that some substances with super antioxidant ability are very toxic. Are there any antioxidants that only attack bad guys and don't hurt good guys? Hydrogen molecules can actually act as targeted antioxidants!
H2 really likes to neutralize hydroxyl radicals (•OH) and peroxynitrite ions (ONOO- ).
These two types of free radicals can destroy nucleic acids, lipids and protein binding, leading to DNA fragmentation, lipid peroxidation and protein inactivation. In 2007, the world's first discovery of the antioxidant effect of H2 was the observation that H2 can protect the brain from ischemic stroke by neutralizing (•OH) and (ONOO- ).
But H2 does not touch H2O2, NO•, O2–•, nor does it affect enzymes involved in metabolism, such as oxidized NAD+, oxidized FAD, and oxidized cytochrome C (Cytochrome C). Therefore, it only cleans up bad guys and does not kill innocent ones.
2. Why is there no doctor promoting it?
Why is there so little introduction to H2 on the Internet, and it looks like a scam?
The health application of H2 is actually very late. The first study on the application of H2 to skin cancer was published in Science in 1975.
1975 was really late. You know, the first literature on the recently popular NMN actually appeared in 1963! This is understandable. After all, synthetic black technology sounds much sexier than natural gas in the air...
Not only was it discovered late, but research and application have been slow. This is largely because scientists in the early years conducted experiments by inhaling hydrogen through the nose.
Because hydrogen is flammable, the storage and application of hydrogen is risky. In 2007, the selective antioxidant capacity of H2 was finally discovered and published in Nature magazine, but at that time, hydrogen intake was still inhaled.
Finally, after a few years, scientists finally found a simple, safe and effective alternative method - drinking hydrogen-rich water. Since then, research on cardiovascular, brain, tumors, and even telomeres has gradually blossomed.
1) Anti-aging: Elderly people over 70 years old drink 500ml of 15ppm hydrogen-rich water every day. After 6 months, the average telomeres are extended by 4%, and DNA methylation is improved.
2) Metabolic diseases: In a randomized double-blind clinical study, 60 patients with metabolic syndrome were randomly divided into groups.
One group drank hydrogen-rich water (5.5 mmol H2 intake) daily, and the control group drank ordinary water. After 24 weeks, blood sugar, cholesterol, and glycosylated hemoglobin HbA1C in the hydrogen-rich water group decreased significantly; in addition, inflammatory indicators decreased, and waist-to-hip ratio and body fat ratio also improved.
3) Diabetes: A randomized double-blind, crossover study observed 30 patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes/prediabetes, comparing daily drinking of 900 ml of hydrogen-rich water vs daily drinking of the same amount of ordinary water, each for 8 weeks.
Conclusion: Intake of hydrogen-rich water was associated with a significant decrease in modified low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (i.e., modification that increases the net negative charge of LDL), small dense LDL, and urine 8-isoprostane levels, which decreased by 15.5% (P < .01), 5.7% (P < .05), and 6.6% (P < .05), respectively.
The intake of hydrogen-rich water is also associated with a trend of decreased serum concentrations of oxidized LDL and free fatty acids and increased plasma levels of adiponectin and extracellular superoxide dismutase. Among the 6 patients with diabetes in the study, 4 returned to normal glucose tolerance after drinking hydrogen-rich water for 8 weeks.
4) Stroke, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease: H2 is small enough to pass through the blood-brain barrier smoothly. Therefore, it has a very good balance for oxidative stress in the brain. There is a 48-week randomized double-blind clinical trial for Parkinson's disease.
The overall Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) score of the hydrogen-rich water group (n=9) improved (median, -1.0; mean ± SD, -5.7 ± 8.4), while the UPDRS score of the placebo group (n=8) worsened (median, 4.5; mean ± SD, 4.1 ± 9.2). Although the number of people was small, the difference was very significant (P<0.05)
Stroke: As early as 2007, Japanese scientists found that after stroke mice inhaled hydrogen, the scope of brain damage was reduced; there were many subsequent stroke studies, but currently it seems to be focused on mouse models
Alzheimer's: A mouse study found that hydrogen-rich injection can improve the cognitive memory function of Alzheimer's mice
